Foundation Portfolio Introduction

 Hello and welcome back to MediaFix, we have begun the foundation portfolio's pre-production! For this assignment, my group and I will learn and apply the skills we have studied over the past few months to create the first two minutes of our own original film. When the film is complete we will give a creative reflection of our learning.

My role in this film will be the cinematographer. This means I will be responsible for the film's visuals, to ensure a quality production, I will need to collaborate with the director and editor because my knowledge of the film's footage. Because my group does not have a director due to our amount of people, we will all share the role. However, my blog will focus on the lens of my role as a cinematographer and how I learn through it. The tasks my role must complete during pre-production will be the storyboard and shotlist and later on, in production and post I will work on filming and assisting the editor. Throughout my last production I have learned new skills and have gained experience in my role as a cinematographer. I want to apply these skills to this production and also incorporate new skills and knowledge. I also believe that working with these members I can learn and share what we had grasped from our last film.

Welcome back to MediaFix! In one of my previous blogs I spoke about researching and learning camera movements for cinematic footage. Below is the footage I shot, practicing the shot, after learning the key steps.    Michael Bay shot, March 20, 2024, By MediaFix I shot this by first placing my character at a higher angle from the camera Then, I moved them in the opposite direction than I moved the camera, so the character was moving to the left while I was moving to the right. I used an fps of 25 but if I were to shoot this again I would move the camera faster to create a more energetic look, or raise the fps and slow down the shot in editing for a slow motion look. Learning to control exposure: camera settings

 Welcome back to MediaFix! Understanding camera settings is essential when fixing overexposure. I needed to know how to use settings like ISO, shutter speed, and aperture during my last film. While I had a basic understanding, I did not fully know how to use them to my advantage in changing the look of a scene.  Multiple factors of settings play a role in controlling exposure in a shot. One I struggled with was understanding how to use was shutter speed. Shutter speed is the amount of light a camera takes in. Because of this, a slower shutter speed will have longer exposure, and faster will have shorter exposure. Applying this knowledge when trying to fix overexposure while filming is key. So if my shot is underexposed, I will need to lower the shutter speed to raise the brightness without using ISO. Production day 3

 Welcome back to MediaFix! Due to issues on the other two production days, most of our film would have to be filmed on our last day, production day 3. It was necessary every crew member would come and all materials were available. Upon arrival at our filming location, our actor and other crew members prepared for filming. There were not many challenges throughout filming this day except restricted time. Due to this challenge, we were not able to film all 30 shots.
